Spring Softball
Spring Softball participates in an instructional league that focuses on fun, fundamentals, team building and sportsmanship. We are always looking for volunteers to coach, fundraise, field maintenance and anything else that you can offer to help grow our organization.
Ages
Our Spring season welcomes players ages 5-15 for our Tee Ball U14 levels.
When
Our Spring season will run from mid April-mid June. The start of our season is dependent on the conditions of our fields.
Where
Home games and practices may be held at any of the following fields in the city:
Elsie Turner (Trapelo Road)
Middlebrook (Veterans Field, Forest St.)
Cusick (Veterans Field, Forest St.)
Practices
Practices will be held at least once, maybe twice a week, at the coaches' discretion in regards to what day(s) and time(s).
We understand that your child may not be able to make it to all of the practices. However, please try to have your child attend as many as possible. Practice is a time for your child to get extra field time, practice skills, learn new strategies, and to bond with the team.
Games
Tee Ball will not have games. Practices will be held Sundays 11:30am-1:00pm.
We do not have a schedule yet for U8-U14. However, in the past the following has occurred:
U8 will have one game and at least one practice a week.
U10-U12 will have two games and at least one practice a week.
U14 may have games on the weekends.
Jerseys
We will be teaming up with Stephen's Apparel again for jerseys. Please make sure to fill out the question regarding your child's jersey size when registering.
Extra Costs
What costs beyond registration fees should be expected?
Besides the $125 registration fee, players may have additional costs for the following depending on what they already own:
-glove
-black pants
-cleats or sneakers
Coaches can provide helmets and bats as necessary. Or you can choose to provide your own.

Playing Level Policy
Players of WGS are expected to play at their current age level each season. Players will only play up a level when deemed necessary by the Board.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you offer any discounts?
We do offer an Early Bird discount of 20% ($25 off) if you register on or before 2/1/24. Any registrations after 2/1/24 will not receive the discount. The discount code is EARLYBIRD24.
What happens if I miss the registration deadline?
For the Spring, our registration deadline is March 15th. This allows time for jersey orders to be placed, teams to be formed, etc. Late registrations will be very limited and charged an additional $25 fee.
Do I need to download an app?
Yes, you will need to download the Crossbar app. This app allows you to see the roster, game and practice schedule, as well as take part in attendance for games and practices. You'll also be able to connect with coaches through this app.
My child can not attend a game or practice. What do I do?
Please use the attendance component on the Crossbar app. You can update it at any time to allow for coaches to get accurate attendance before games or practices.
2024
Waltham Girls Softball plays in the CityTown League each spring. CityTown League is made up of teams from Waltham, Watertown, Brighton, Winchester, Charlestown, Arlington, Somerville, Medford, and Belmont.
Spring ball is a great opportunity for players age 5-15 to learn the sport or to continue practicing and building on the skills that they have developed previously. Prior softball experience is not required.
Tee-ball players will practice Sunday mornings 11:30-1:00. Many practices will end with a scrimmage.
U8 plays one game each week.
U10-U14 teams play twice each week. One game is typically in Waltham. The other game is typically in another league town.
Price to play: $125/player
Each player will receive a team shirt. Players should wear black pants and sneakers or cleats to each game.
Coaches can provide helmets and bats as necessary. Players should come to the field with their own glove and face mask. (Please let us know if you need help finding either, we may be able to help you out!)
